Out and About in 2014 & Update

Hi all,

I first wanted to apologize for being MIA, work have been so crazy and I haven't been able to explore recently. I have missed a lot of opportunities in Detroit and many other trips around Florida because of work but from now on, I promise the posts will keep coming.

For the next few weeks I will be updating with a few shots here and there. Primarily random ones that I caught on the side of the road and just passing by. Stayed tuned for some abandoned Iceland photos from my recent trip.

Regards,

Cory

South Florida Evaluation and Treatment Center

SFETC- Mental Institution for the criminally insane, now abandoned

The South Florida Evaluation and Treatment Center was opened in 1986 to house inmates not fit to stand trial or defendants not guilty by reason of insanity. In 2008 GeoCare won the bid to privatize this facility and moved it to Homestead where the campus is much larger. The building currently sits abandoned but is supposed to undergo renovations in the neat future to become another mental health treatment facility and correctional center.

Nike Missile Site HM-40 Key Largo, FL

Welcome to the Key Largo Nike Hercules Missile battery HM-40. This was a missile site holding Hercules missiles in response to the cuban missile crisis in the 1960's. About 5 were built around South Florida. This one (dubbed HM-40) Was abandoned in the late 70's and now is part of the Crocodile lake national refuge.

This area is overseen by Monroe County sheriff and FWC (Florida Fish & Wildlife Commission). FWC Officers frequent the area but we had no unexpected visitors.
 Main Building
The compound is quite larger than I originally thought. Lots of housing rooms.

Very Remote.....

Creepy
