Crandon Park Gardens (Old Zoo)

These beautiful gardens are whats left of the old Crandon Park Zoo which I believe closed in 1981 when the new Miami Metro Zoo opened down near Homestead/South Miami. Currently the park is full of beautiful flowers and ponds, with lots of wildlife. Some of the old habitats can be seen in my photos. They are currently building a petting zoo on the west side of the gardens over the canal bridge in the back. These were taken in January 2013.

  1. Have you ever been out to loop road beyond shark valley? I know of a hiking trail where you can find an old drug running plane wreck out in the everglades. The plane is all shot up and over grown. Out in loop road you can also find the foundation to al capone's old vacation home. There is an old town out there called Pinecrest; the remains of an old abandoned gas station and an old buick sit out there.
